With downtown safety taking centre stage in Terrace in recent months, the City is looking for ways to continue their Community Safety Officer program, and possibly add to it.
Last year, the City acquired funding from the Union of BC Municipalities to hire a Safety Officer through July of this year.
As part of yesterday’s regular meeting, Council voted to write a letter of support to reapply for the same program, which would provide $112,500 in funding.
In addition, Council was presented with another option through the Northern Development Initiative Trust which may allow for additional officers.
While not as ideal of an option, staff brought forward the idea of applying for the broader Northern Healthy Communities Fund.
It would provide the City with up to $100,000 in funding, though the City would have to cover 10 percent of the cost if accepted.
