Due to unforeseen circumstances, the City of Terrace will not be able to apply for FireSmart funding in 2022.
Since 2018, the City has been working with Westland Resources Ltd to secure program funding through the Community Resiliency Investment program.
However, while applying for grants this year, Westland lost a number of key employees, making them unable to complete final reports from 2019 through 2020, grants from 2021, or this year’s application.
While Terrace Fire Department Chief John Klie is tasked with finishing off the previous year’s reports, they will be unable to complete the 2022 grant application.
Without the funding, the Department will be unable to complete many fuel management activities, or provide refunds for home owners.
In previous years, home owners could apply for refunds of up to $500 for FireSmart work on their homes, depending on the cost.
Despite the loss of funding, the City will still be posting FireSmart information and tips to their website, as well as providing advice to residents when requested.
