Two wildfires flared up in Kitwanga this weekend, just one day in to the start of an open fire ban issued in the Northwest Fire Centre.
Both fires were discovered on Saturday, with both currently suspected to be human-caused.
One of the fire’s, near Kitwanga West Road, is currently listed as held by the Wildfire Service, after growing to 16 hectares in size.
However, the second fire near the railway tracks by Bridge Street, is currently listed as out of control, though much smaller at 1 hectare for the time being.
Those include all fires larger than 2 metres high by 3 metres wide, smaller one or two pile fires, and and stubble or grass fires of all sizes.
