Property Taxes in Smithers are set to go up next year, as the Town gave its first three readings to their 5 year financial plan.
That plan includes an increase of 11.8 percent on property taxes, with 9.7 percent being general taxes, and 2.1 percent for the RCMP.
For 2022, a home valued at $401,000, near the town’s median, will be paying approximately $1,600 in municipal property taxes.
That represents an increase of around $170 for the average home owner.
A bylaw to finalize the town’s 2022 tax rate is slated for their next council meeting on Tuesday.
