One individual has been arrested by New Hazelton RCMP in connection with a brush fire from last week.
At around 12:30 Thursday afternoon, police were called out to an area along Highway 37 and Kitwanga North Road in Gitwangak for reports of the fire.
Once on scene, they noticed a fire raging on the north side of the hill, next to the highway, and called in fire crews from Kitwanga and Gitanyow, as well as the Wildfire Service.
Witnesses reported having seen a man in the area who appeared to be setting off fireworks shortly before the blaze.
Through investigation, police were able to identify and arrest the man, who was later released to appear in court at a later date.
Fire crews battled the blaze through the weekend, eventually extinguishing it, but RCMP say the costs incurred by the fire is extensive.
