A new, $2.8 million, investment will bring 12 new affordable rental homes for seniors in Telkwa.
Dubbed Aldermere House, the units would be located on the 1500 block of Second Avenue, at the site of the existing Telkwa House development.
Similarly to that development, Aldermere House will be managed by the Telkwa Seniors Housing Society, with rent determined by income.
Utilizing a modular design, the development will be a one-storey building, split in to 12, fully-accessible, one-bedroom units, each with a living and dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and in-suite laundry.
With the pre-built modular homes expected to arrive early this month, construction is expected to wrap-up by the end of fall.
Of the $2.8 million total price tag, Ottawa will provide $1.5 million, while BC Housing will provide $1.2 million, with $100,000 in annual funding.
Valued at $60,000, the land was provided by the Village of Telkwa, who also waived municipal fees.
