At last night’s council meeting, Prince Rupert City Council decided approve the alternate approval process for the Police Detachment Loan authorization bylaw.
Now, council will have to get the opinions of eligible electors on whether or not funding should be given to help complete construction of a new Police Detachment as well as set the deadline for when electors responses have to be submitted.
The maximum number of electors that can participate in this vote is 958.
One of the councillors did ponder the point of the detachment if BC was to enact the recent recommendation of replacing the RCMP with it’s own Police force.
But it was eventually determined that the detachment would likely get built regardless of the force occupying it and decided to continue the process of getting the funding.
