A number of northerners will be taking home awards at the BC Rural Health Conference this weekend.
Handed out annually by the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada, the awards are split in to 14 categories, with northern BC represented in 4.
Dr Tracy Morgan, of Queen Charlotte, takes home the Rural Service Award, recognizing physicians who have served rural communities for at least 10 years.
Three northerners will take home Long Service Awards, which go to previous winners of the Service Award with at least 20 years of rural service.
Among them are: Dr Edward Marquis of Prince George, Dr Gordon Horner from Haida Gwaii, and Dr Michael Wright from Charlie Lake.
Dr Wright will also receive the Fellowship of Rural and Remote Medicine Award, given to expert physicians who meet a set list of criteria.
And Dr Onuora Odoh of Houston takes home a Community Impact Award.
This year’s Conference will be held in Penticton from Friday through Sunday, with courses, workshops, and more also taking place.
