Terrace City Council has approved an extra $387,000 in grant funding for the Grand Trunk Pathway Completion and Connection Project.
That project will see the existing multi-use pathway extended from Frank Street west to the Kitsumkalum River Bridge.
In total, the project was initially estimated to cost just over $1 million, with aesthetic lighting included to improve safety and visibility.
But the City received just one compliant bid across two tendering periods, setting the price at $387,000 over the initial estimate.
Council was presented with a few options on how to move forward, including eliminating the lighting plans, and installing just the shells and leaving the electrical for later.
But, they ultimately decided to provide the additional funding from the Northern Capital Planning Grant reserve, with improving safety in mind.
