More funding is being provided by the District of Kitimat to go towards the construction of a 24-hour daycare proposed by the Tamatik Status of Women Association.
Once completed, that project will bring 60 daycare spaces to the community, along with transitional and support housing, to be built at 461 Quatsino Boulevard.
Operating under the assumption that BC Housing will fund the transitional housing portion of the project, the District has locked in the budget for the daycare portion.
Including an addition of just over $730,000, the new budget for that portion has been set at just under $4 million.
