Kitimat District Council is getting closer to finalizing their Nechako Centre Concept Plan, which aims to restore the landmark to its former glory as a community hub.
As part of a special meeting, Council received an update on the plan, which has now wrapped up its first three phases.
A draft concept plan has now been developed, as the result of market assessments, and consultations with the public and stakeholders.
That draft identifies four policy areas to focus on as they develop their final plan: commercial and residential development, recreation and community use, greenspace, and operational needs.
Each of the policy areas feature their own set of recommendations, which range from developing a mixed-use zone, to formalizing green space connections, to investing in recreation and mixed-use retail and residential development.
Another round of engagement will be launching in September before the plan is finalized.
