With temperatures increasing and river levels rising, the City of Terrace is activating its Emergency Operations Centre.
According to the River Forecast Centre’s modelling data, water levels in the Skeena could hit 100 year flood levels by the end of the weekend.
Over the next several days, City staff will be physically monitoring flood-prone areas, and will provide updates if flooding is expected.
As another precautionary step, Ferry Island will be closed to both day and overnight campers as of 11:00 Friday morning, or sooner if necessary.
Fisherman’s Memorial Park will also be closed to the public beginning on Friday at the latest, depending on conditions.
