Welcome to an episode of Journeys with your host Kelly Kenny. For tonights episode I spoke with Wendy Proverbs. Wendy is an emerging Indigenous author of Kaska Dena descent; She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts and Masters of Arts in anthropology from the University of Victoria. As an infant Wendy was caught in the 60’s scoop of Indigenous children as she was taken from her birth family and was only reunited with her biological family as a young adult. It was learning of her birth families experiences through a memoir where Wendy found the inspiration and responsibly to share and spread awareness of what indigenous people experienced at Residential Schools. The main characters in the book are from Daylu known as Lower Post near the BC Yukon border, This story is keeping with the oral tradition our Indigenous cultures, and is written as a grandmother telling the story to her granddaughter. The book is called Aggie and Mudgy; please if possible purchase yourself a copy of this book or we will be having a contest very soon for your very own copy!
