School District 27 has conditionally accepted an offer from the Williams Lake First Nation to purchase the site of the former Poplar Glade School.
In total, the District received 5 bids which met their $975,000 price tag since putting the site on the market, including one from the City of Williams Lake.
But, before they can finalize the sale, the District must first pass a bylaw to approve it, which will be considered at their next Council Meeting.
Chief Willie Sellars says the site will be used to address the housing needs of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members.
In addition, Sellars says the Nation is keen to work with the School District to address their need of housing for teachers and staff.
He also says there may be an opportunity to service those needs through their Osprey Nest project, which is targetting a Spring 2023 completion.
