A new provincial program, opted in to by the District of Kitimat, will help them continue financial support for local climate initiatives.
Launched this year, the Local Government Climate Action Program replaces the outgoing Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program, which the District was also a part of.
Last year, that program provided the District with just over $71,000 to go toward projects which help to meet the province’s legislated climate targets.
This year, under the new program, that contribution is set to increase to just over $96,000.
According to the province, the new program will provide more predictable, long-term annual funding to help communities prepare for the impacts of climate change.
