Grant funding is being sought by the City of Terrace to go toward the remapping of the city’s Slope Hazard Development Permit Area.
That area is intended to map out slopes steep enough to pose a risk to development, and provide guidelines for the permitting process.
But, on top of providing little information for developers, the city’s current map is outdated, and doesn’t include lands in south Terrace.
All slopes at a 30 percent grade or higher are considered hazardous under current provincial guidelines.
Costs to develop a new permit area are estimated to be in the $80,000 to $100,000 range.
In order to cover the costs, council opted to apply for the Union of BC Municipalities’ Canada Community Building Fund.
If approved, the city can fund the entirety of the project through grant funding from their Capacity Building Stream.
