In an effort to fund their water system upgrade project, the District of Kitimat is applying for a second Federal grant.
Kitimat’s current water system does not meet current water quality standards, which has the frequency of advisories trending up.
But, estimated costs to modernize their system currently sit at just over $8 million.
In January, the District applied for joint provincial-federal funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure grant program.
But, despite staff’s belief that the application had a good chance of being approved, they have not yet received a response.
Now, the District has sent in a second application to the fully-federal Canada Community Building Fund.
But, with that grant providing only $6 million, the District also allocated more money from their budget, bringing the total municipal investment to $2.2 million.
