A State of Local Emergency has been declared by the City of Terrace in order to facilitate the evacuation of one property.
Unstable slope forces have increased landslide risks, prompting the evacuation of a single property on McConnell Crescent.
A landslide event at the nearby Kitsumkalum River in 2017 led to continued bank erosion, which has increased the frequency and size of area landslides.
After that initial landslide, the City had a geotechnical survey of the are conducted to provide information on slope stability and inform evacuations.
Based off of preliminary finds, an evacuation order has been issued for the property in question, with the City communicating with the owner directly.
