According to the Ministry of Transportation, there are currently no plans to bring a second overpass to Terrace, despite a predicted boom in traffic.
With a boom in population and industry expected for the region, Council expects the overpass to hit capacity within the next few years.
But, the Ministry disagrees, saying that according to their most recent studies, the corridor is not expected to hit capacity in the next two decades.
They do acknowledge, however, that some changes to capacity along the highway corridor may soon be required.
If changes are to be made, the Ministry says they would focus on improvements to the existing Sande Overpass, rather than build a new one.
Those improvements could take the form of intersection changes, expansion to up to six lanes, and more.
According to the City, building a new overpass could cost between $11 and 15 million.
