13 of the province’s 22 active wildfires are burning in the Northwest Fire Centre, with lightning to blame for all of them.
An out of control, 4,700 hectare fire west of Highway 37 and north of Blue River near Lower Post is the largest of those.
West of there is a 65 hectare blaze near the Jennings Lakes, a 906 hectare fire further west along the Jennings River, and one covering 20 hectares near Tahoots Lake, all listed as out of control.
A fire straddling the Yukon border near Tagish Lake is also listed as out of control and covering 150 hectares.
Wildfire crews have worked over the past few days to fight the remaining fires, with all listed as either under control or being held.
Lightning to blame? Did the lightning intentionally aim for those areas? Lightning was the “cause” of the fires.
