Category two and three open fires are banned in the Cariboo, and Coastal Fire Centres, which includes Haida Gwaii, as of noon today.
Category two fires are one or two pile burns smaller than two metres high and 3 metres wide, or stubble or grass fires smaller than 0.2 hectares.
Category three fires are those which are larger than two metres high by three metres wide, and stubble or grass fires larger than 0.2 hectares.
Small campfires are still allowed, but sky lanterns and fireworks are also covered under the ban.
Similar bans are also now in place in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, with only the Northwest and Prince George Centres escaping bans for now.
