A gathering is set to be held in Terrace to provide emotional and spiritual support for Residential School survivors during the Pope’s upcoming Canada tour.
Hosted by the Indian Residential School Survivor Society, the gathering is being held in anticipation of the emotional triggers the visit may cause.
Pope Francis will be visiting Canada between the 24th and 29th, during which time he’ll make stops in Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit.
His itinerary will focus on Indigenous activities, such as a visit to the former Ermineskin Residential School, south of Edmonton.
It is anticipated that the Pontiff will use the visit as an opportunity to apologize for the Catholic Church’s role in the Residential School tragedy during the visit.
Residential School survivors and families in Terrace can come together to show support on the 25th and 26th at the Kitsumkalum Community Centre.
Breakfast will be served at 8:00 each morning, afterwhich the events of the Pope’s visit will be livestreamed.
A full schedule, including traditional and cultural activities to honour survivors and students will be released prior to the event.
