In order to improve retention and combat staffing challenges, the City of Terrace is increasing wages for union-exempt staff.
Just last month, the City came to terms on a new 5 year agreement with CUPE Local 2012, who represent most city staff.
That agreement will see represented employees get a 3.5 percent wage increase this year, and 2.9 percent annually on average, but leaves out exempt staff.
According to preliminary data from a wage review launched by the City, wages for exempt employees are neither competitive with other local governments, nor with similar private sector jobs.
In order to get a wage increase in ahead of the election, the City will be raising exempt staff wages by 3 percent, retroactive to January 1st.
