An orange flag will be flown outside the Kitimat Fire Hall each September from now on, in the spirit of Indigenous reconciliation.
Last year, Ottawa declared September 30th as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, following the gruesome discovery of 215 unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Residential School.
To honour that, Kitimat joined numerous communities across the country in flying the orange flag, representing the every child matters movement.
Last night, District Council voted to continue flying the flag each September, with a tentative date of September 6th scheduled for this year’s rising.
