Enbridge is looking to extend an Environmental Assessment Certificate in hopes of bringing their own liquid natural gas pipeline to the north.
Yesterday, the City of Terrace agreed to provide a letter of support to extend the certificate for the Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project.
Initially approved in 2014, the project aims to build up to two 48-inch pipelines, complete with compressors, capable of servicing multiple LNG facilities.
Joining with BC’s existing pipeline west of Chetwynd, the route would head west to the Cranberry Junction, before taking one of two proposed routes south to Ridley Island.
Enbridge was already granted an extension in 2019, but says that recent issues will prevent them from completing substantial construction work before it runs up.
They cite issues related to Covid, and the recent Yahey decision, recognizing the cumulative negative effects of industry on First Nations land, as reasons for the delay.
