A new wildfire which sprouted up on Highway 16 between Terrace and Kitwanga this afternoon is currently believed to be human caused and is now under control.
That fire is still listed as covering 8 hectares at the bend known as the Devil’s Elbow, across the river from Doreen.
Another now under control fire popped up approximately near the Quesnel Mill area yesterday covering only 0.3 hectares and it is also believed to have been caused by a human.
No other information on the fires or their exact causes are available at this moment.
Both Category 2 and 3 open fires were banned in the Northwest Fire Centre today, as the Service is expecting the heat and dry weather to increase risks over the weekend.
