Terrace Councillor Sean Bujtas has announced his intentions to run for Mayor in the upcoming municipal election.
Bujtas has been viewed as a frontrunner for the position by many in the community since incumbent Mayor Carol Leclerc announced she would not be seeking reelection.
Having served 8 years on the City’s council, Bujtas has represented the City on a number of boards, including with the Regional District, the Northwest Resource Benefits Alliance, and more.
If elected mayor, he says he will continue to fight for a resource revenue sharing agreement, and to prioritize reconciliation.
Bujtas is regularly vocal at council meetings about the provincial government’s lack of support on many issues, something he says he will push them on.
Such issues include: prolific offenders, mental health and addictions services, and active transportation.
This year’s elections are set for October 15th, with Bujtas the only one to publicly announce his candidacy in Terrace so far.
