UPDATE:
A boil water notice issued by the City of Prince Rupert earlier today has been downgraded to a Water Quality Advisory.
A Water Quality Advisory is the lowest form of form of alert, and is generally issued out of precaution.
Only water intended for ingestion by the immune compromised, elderly, pregnant women and children under 2 years-old needs to be boiled prior to consumption.
Business owners are also required to post notices at all publicly accessible sinks, or drinking water fountains or turn them off.
Original Story:
A boil water notice has been issued by the City of Prince Rupert, covering all who use the City’s system.
Residents are asked to boil water for at least one minute prior to consumption or use for cooking, washing food, making ice, or brushing teeth.
Business owners are also required to post notices at all publicly accessible sinks, or drinking water fountains or turn them off.
While the City has not said why the notice was issued, they do anticipate it to be short term.
