Bella Coola Valley Search and Rescue crews were in action again on Friday to rescue a pair of hikers near Mount Waddington.
A falling rock had struck one of the hikers in both the arm and leg as they were climbing between Serra Peak 4 and 5.
After determining the injured hiker was too hurt to continue, the pair activated their INREACH GPS to send a notification to Bella Coola RCMP.
RCMP notified SAR crews and they were able to acquire a local helicopter before heading up the mountain to locate the hikers.
According to crews, the pair were located at a roughly 11,000 foot elevation in a very remote area.
They set up a staging area nearby where crews treated the hiker’s injuries after extracting them one-by-one, before eventually transferring them to the care of Emergency Health Services.
