A new discussion framework, released by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, looks to guide BC’s transition away from open-pen salmon farming.
That framework highlights the government’s objectives and a number of different strategies and approaches which could be used in the transition.
Now, Ottawa will undertake a number of engagement sessions hoping to gather feedback on the framework.
Those engagements will be used to advise a transition plan, and will focus on: creating a pathway for existing operations to adopt alternative methods, improving transparency on how the government responds to new scientific information, providing opportunities for collaboration with First Nations partners, and advancing innovation to support the adoption of alternate methods.
Phase one will feature virtual workshops and consultations with First Nations and stakeholders, and an online survey, linked here.
