Eleven First Nations communities in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii will be able to access new funding to transition to cleaner energy.
Through the Community Energy for Diesel program, the Nations are among 44 communities which can apply for funding to transition from diesel-generated electricity to renewable energy.
Supported energy sources include: wind, solar, hydro, bio-mass, heat pumps, and more.
A total of $29 million is being invested in the program over the next 3 years, thanks to a partnership between the province, Coast Funds, and New Relationship Trust.
The Nations eligible for funding include the Gitga’at, Haida, Nuxalk, Heiltsuk, Ulkatcho, Wuikinuxv, Gwawaenuk, Dzawada’enuxw, Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis and Kitasoo Xai’xais Nations.
