BC’s Ministers say they will continue to fight what they call unjustified duties imposed by the US on Canadian softwood lumber exports.
Yesterday, the US Department of Commerce announced their final decision to apply an 8.59 percent countervailing and anti-dumping duty.
While that is a significant drop from the current 17.91 percent rate, and a proposed 11.64 percent rate, Ottawa says any charge is unacceptable.
In a joint statement, a number of BC Ministers came forward to condemn the duties, saying they will continue to vigorously defend against the unfair trade action on softwood lumber products.
That includes pursuing litigation through all available methods, including through the North American Free Trade Agreement, and World Trade Organization.
They also say they will support the challenge being filed by Ottawa through the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement’s dispute resolution clause.
