Welcome to an episode of Journeys with your host Kelly Kenny. Tonights episode is highlighting musician Jade Turner. Jade Turner is a member of the Misipawistik Cree Nation; known in English as “Grand Rapids”. Being raised in Northern Manitoba communities, Jade grew up listening to indigenous music and country on the radio. As a child Jade would enter into singing contests in many different communities as her mother travelled with her nursing job. Like many of us Jade encountered bullying at a young age; this is where she would isolate herself and write songs to help deal with these situations. For our conversation we talked about her EP in 2013 and how this helped her know that there is so much more work that goes into releasing and marketing her music; so when 2017 came around she was a lil more prepared. We talk about the pandemic and how this time helped Jade really take a deeper look at what she sees now a gifts. I am so happy you all get to hear her positive attitude and all round happy person Jade Turner is.
