With Canadians continuing to struggle to get access to passport services, MP Taylor Bachrach is calling on the government to open a passport office in Northern BC.
While residents across the country are facing excessive delays, the Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP says it is impacting northerners even more.
He says that the federal government should have anticipated an increase in travel demand and deployed additional resources as pandemic restrictions were lifted.
With no federal passport offices in the north, residents whose passports require urgent processing are forced to travel to the southern mainland for services.
Bachrach says that, if the government can’t process applications within reasonable times, northern residents need to be able to access urgent services without a 17 hour drive.
