Lightning and heat is to blame for a number of new fires which kept wildfire crews busy in the Northwest Fire Centre over the weekend.
Of the 18 fires currently burning in the Centre, 6 are listed as out of control and three are listed as new, with unknown causes.
Two small lightning caused fires are burning south of Tesla Lake, near Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, while three more are burning north of there near Watuk Lake, St Thomas Bay, and the Nechako Reservoir near Tahtsa Lake.
Along with a fire south of Bob Quinn Lake, none of the out of control blazes are covering more than 3 hectares.
Meanwhile, a new fire is covering less than a hectare along Highway 16, where the Kasiks and Skeena Rivers meet.
Another new, but small blaze, is burning northwest of Kispiox, halfway between the River and Highway 37.
One more new fire, the largest of the three at 3 hectares, is also burning at the confluence of the Morice River and Gosnell Creek.
