Yesterday, a new way for Coast Mountain College students to get hands on experience was unveiled to the public in Prince Rupert.
Thanks to $250,000 in funding provided by the BC government, the College was able to build a 27 foot, 12-passenger, aluminum-hulled boat that will allow coastal ecology students and teachers to be able to have lessons while on the water.
The Boat, whose name is Na Malgsa Aks, will allow for students to further their ecology, sustainability and fish/wildlife conservation careers and the creation of this boat was thanks to goals set in StrongerBC’s Future Ready Plan.
The funding provided to the college was also used to buy equipment for the boat such as air drones, plankton troll nets, a crane and winch for lowering and towing equipment and underwater cameras.
