According to a recent news release, two applications put forward by the town of Smithers for funding from senior levels of government have been rejected.
The town was hoping to get funds to build a new building that contains both a library and an art gallery but that won’t be possible, at least not with those two grant applications.
While it was noted that the Smithers Art Gallery determined that they no longer needed to be involved in the project as a partner, the library and the town still wish to at least create a new library.
In the meantime, the town will to look for alternative models to boost their chances of getting the desired financial support from upper levels of government.
