Yesterday evening at around 8:30, the Fort St John RCMP were informed of a Collision on the Sikani River Bridge along Highway 97 approximately 200 km north of Fort St John.
This Collision happened to involve a commercial tanker trucker that had a lot of flammable liquids in it’s tank.
Both Police officers and Firefighters from Fort St John and Fort Nelson arrived on the scene to see that the truck was engulfed in flames and emitting toxic smoke.
Although the cause of the crash is still under investigation, preliminary results believe that the vehicle collided with a barrier on the bridge and then on caught fire.
The driver of the truck is also believed to have perished in the crash.
Highway 97 has since been closed down and has no timeline for re-opening.
