At the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine’s regional district meeting back on Aug 19th, a request was made for the district to support a campaign for a community to be listed on provincial road signs.
Martin Holzbauer, a resident of Thornhill who went to the meeting as a delegate, asked the district to join Thornhill’s campaign to get official recognition on province of BC highway road signage.
A big reason that the district was asked for support was due to the fact that BC’s transportation ministry said any request for a community’s inclusion on highway signage should be local government approved first.
The idea for this campaign initially came from another resident of Thornhill, Bob Erb, who noticed that when it came to mileage signs that listed off how far away communities are from that point in the road, Thornhill isn’t included on them.
After some discussion, the regional district board members decided to become apart of the campaign and now they look to help Thornhill get the recognition they desire.
