Certain BC communities are going to be getting more support from the provincial government in the form of funds, this time the money will be used to support seniors.
25 communities in total, plus 4 Indigenous communities, will be on the receiving end of funds from a total of $500,000 for age-friendly assessments, planning and projects in order to encourage seniors to lead active and independent lives.
37 local and Indigenous communities initially applied for some form of funding to support their seniors but only the 25 were chosen.
The Age-friendly Communities Grant Program mainly focuses on equity, sustainability and multi-sector partnerships.
Some of the more notable communities getting funds include Williams Lake, Gitwinksilhkw and Lil’wat Nation, who will all get up to $25,000 for their own age-friendly assessment and/or action plan.
Another pair includes Houston and the Nazko First Nation, who will both get $15,000 for their own age-friendly project.
