A recent trip which saw Minister of Indigenous Services, Patty Hajdu, travel with a delegation all the way to Aotearoa-New Zealand came to a conclusion.
Not only was this trip intended to strengthen Canada’s relationship with New Zealand, but also the relationship between the people Indigenous to both countries, Canada’s First Nations peoples and New Zealand’s Māori peoples.
The delegation was welcomed with a ceremony that had speeches, singing and a traditional Māori greeting.
After the ceremony ended, both parties signed an Indigenous Collaboration Arrangement, which will promote and facilitate economic, political, social, educational, well-being, cultural and environmental cooperation between the countries.
The rest of the trip saw the delegation and Minister Hajdu travel across the country and partake in several meetings with multiple Indigenous leaders.
