With the previous few days seeing lots of rain in Northern BC compounded with the number of wildfires decreasing as of late, the BC Wildfire Service has decided to end their Category 2 and 3 fire ban in the Northwest Fire Centre.
It was officially rescinded yesterday at 2 PM and these bans had been in place since the end of July.
Category 2 fires are defined as any fire piles that are less than 2-meters in height and 3-meters in width or stubble or grass fires that doesn’t exceed 0.2 hectares.
Category 3 fires are fires that happen to be larger than the previously mentioned dimensions, but they need to follow regulations that seek to prevent these fires from getting out of control.
Even with these bans no longer being in effect, residents are being strongly encouraged to continue being careful when it comes to using outdoor campfires or other means of burning.
If you see a wildfire, an unattended campfire or an open burning violation, you are asked to call 1-800-663-5555.
