Officially beginning yesterday, the Province of BC will now require that certain public-sector organizations establish an accessibility committee in order to make life a bit easier for BC residents living with disabilities.
Some of the organizations in question that will need to create their own committee includes local governments, public libraries, school districts and post-secondary schools.
This regulation was first announced in April of this year and it seeks to get rid of barriers making life difficult for people with disabilities as well as to set a standard of accessibility in BC.
In a year’s time, the aforementioned organizations will need to create an accessibility committee, a plan to increase accessibility and finally, a way to get feedback on how good their plan is and how it is being implemented.
