After 65 days of negotiating, a tentative agreement has reportedly been reached between the Hospital Employees’ Union of BC and the Hospital Employers Association of BC.
Both the union and their lead negotiator have seen released statements on announcement.
The union’s statement says that this deal will last three years, has worker wages improve significantly and implements measures to deal with staffing shortages and burnout like education and training as well as a promise to hire a lot more employees.
Another thing that was mentioned by the union was that this deal is to be reviewed next week by their provincial executive and all the details will be presented to the workers before they vote on whether or not to accept the deal.
So far, that vote has not been scheduled.
The lead negotiator for the nine-union Facilities Bargaining Association, Meena Brisard, said in her statement that ever since these talks started in February, giving the union members the proper compensation to help handle the rising costs of living was top priority.
The agreement as it stands right now covers more than 60,000 employees and a variety of positions throughout BC.
