A plan to establish new, and relocated existing supportive housing in Quesnel has been cancelled, following significant public backlash.
Proposed by BC Housing, the plan would have seen them establish 45 units of supportive housing at the Ramada Hotel on St Laurent Avenue.
Those spaces would have included up to 15 shelter spaces and 10 extreme weather spaces, and would have seen existing services moved from their Season’s House and Grace Inn locations.
But, public engagements held last month by BC Housing brought forward negative feedback by the majority of respondents.
Of more than 1,200 responses, more than 60 percent said they were very against the plan to move the spaces to the proposed location.
In light of this, City Council voted against giving 2nd reading to a bylaw which would be required to move the services, earlier this week.
