Members of the Williams Lake First Nation are bringing back an old tradition this weekend with their first annual Speaking Our Truth Competition Pow Wow.
Hosted at the newly-renovated Chief William Arbor, the event is a revitalization of the Cariboo Contest Pow Wow, which has not been held for years.
As it is a Competition Pow Wow, admission will be by donation, with the proceeds contributing to the winners’ pot.
Competitors can take part in five different categories, each split into five age categories, of which the top three finishers will all take home a share of the prize.
A number of special events will also take place at the Pow Wow, including: two pageants, a hand drumming contest, 50/50 draw, youth giveaway and more.
Grand Entry will be at 7:00 in the evening on Friday and Saturday, as well as at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
