A prescribed burn planned for as early as next week may have residents and travelers in the Fort Babine area noticing smoke and flames.
Conducted by the Wildfire Service, the burn will cover approximately 25 hectares along Babine Lake Road and the Nilkitkwa Forest Service Road.
According to the Service, the intent of the burn is to determine tree survival and health and to reduce slash levels in 2 to 3 trial blocks.
Through this, they look to determine the impacts of the burns on up to 10 different tree species planted both in the area and an unburned control area.
Weather permitting, the burn is expected to take place as early as next Tuesday.
