British Columbia is joining the federal government in declaring a one-time national holiday to allow residents to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
That means both federal and provincial regulated public sector employees will get next Monday off as Canada’s longest reigning sovereign is laid to rest.
K-12 schools, public post-secondary schools, and most Crown corporations will be closed to honour the day.
But, for private sector employees, the decision on whether or not to get the day off will be left up to the individual employers.
A commemorative ceremony is set to be held in Ottawa on the same day, and will feature a memorial parade, CF-18 flyover, and a 96-gun salute.
It co-incides with a previously announced commemorative ceremony in Ottawa, which will feature a memorial parade, CF-18 flyover, and a 96-gun salute.
