Three pieces of newly introduced federal legislation aim to reduce the impacts of cost-of-living increases on middle and low income Canadians.
One measure will see the GST credit doubled for the next 6 months, providing 11 million residents with up to an additional $467 this year.
A one-time top up to the Canada Housing Benefit will provide an extra $500 to families and individuals making use of the program.
Elligible residents include families with an adjusted net income of under $35,000 or individuals under $20,000, who spend 30 percent of their income or more on rent.
And the first phase of the new Canada Dental Benefit will provide children in families with an income of under $90,000 with $650 per child in each of the next 2 years for dental care.
Each of the measures were supported by the NDP, and look to fulfill parts of a Liberal-NDP supply and confidence agreement made in March.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the bills will be the first pieces of legislation introduced when the House begins sitting again.
