Despite being investigated by the party following multiple complaints, BC NDP leadership hopeful Anjali Appadurai says she isn’t ending her run.
Allegations of Election Act breaches first came forward earlier this month, following an Instagram Live hosted by Appadurai.
On the video, Appadurai appears alongside 350.org digital manager Atiya Jaffar, who was on parental leave, encouraging people to sign up for NDP membership.
During the video, Jaffar implied that she would pay the $10 minimum donation for membership for those who couldn’t afford it.
Doing so would violate Election Act rules, though Appadurai says Jaffar simply misspoke, not understanding the rules.
Other complaints centre around the environmental group, Dogwood BC, who’s website shows them talking up Appadurai’s achievements, while criticizing current leadership.
But, more importantly, it also tells people they can leave their current party, join the NDP, then return to the old one should Appadurai lose.
Neither party allows dual-membership, and the campaign is also being investigated for possible e-mails sent to Green members by her supporters alleging the same.
Appadurai denied any wrong-doing in any of the incidents, and remains the only challenger for front-runner, current Attorney General David Eby.
